Loft
Insulation

Does your property have an uninsulated roof or loft space? Without Loft Insulation the property will be losing around 25% of its heat through the roof costing you more on your energy bills!

Loft Insulation

Save on energy bills with Loft Insulation

Loft Insulation available on the current grant schemes is made from mineral wool (glass fibre). It is rolled out on the floor of the loft, in between and then across the joists. It works like a blanket by trapping the rising heat in your home.

It is also a little known fact that Loft Insulation will help to keep your home cooler in the Summer months, by preventing heat coming in through the roof.

The recommended depth for Loft Insulation is 11 inches or 270mm. If your loft is insulated, but hasn’t been topped up in the past 15 years, it will most likely benefit from having more installed.

Loft Insulation Grants also cover the cost of insulating and draught proofing the hatch, lagging any pipework and fitting a walk-board if there is a water tank situated more than 1m (3 feet) away from the hatch.

What is Loft Insulation?

Loft Insulation is installed between the joists or in the rafters. Insulating between joists will keep the living space below warm and the loft cold. Insulation in the rafters will keep both the living space below and the roof space warm. If you plan on using your loft as a storage space, insulating between the rafters is the better option.

Loft or roof insulation can last for more than 40 years. Not only will it reduce your bills, but it will also improve your home’s energy efficiency rating and increase your home’s value if you come to sell. The low cost of loft insulation versus the energy bill savings it generates means that the insulation will soon pay for itself.

Free Loft Insulation?

As part of the Government’s ECO scheme, there are home insulation grants available which can cover the cost of professional installation of your new roof space insulation. The aim of the grants is to help properties with inadequate or no insulation receive the proper techniques and materials they need to bring the property up to current building standards.

How do I know if I am eligible?

To apply for an ECO Grant and be able to have building work carried out on your property for free, you need to meet certain criteria. If you are applying for a first-time central heating grant you must be a homeowner or live in a private rental.

We are with you every step of the way. As long as your home has no record as ever having had any type of central heating, you are a homeowner or a tenant in a private rental, and anyone in your household is in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits, we can help you.

If you are in privately rented accommodation, the eligibility is based on your situation, not your landlords, though you will need your landlord’s permission to have the work carried out.
